I roll out a mat on the soft sand near an ancient temple, where a statue of Buddha looks into the distance with a serene smile. The stones under my feet retain the warmth of yesterday's sun, and there is not a soul around.
Only silence.
The same silence that everyone seeks, who comes not just for the flexibility of the body, but also for peace of mind. Here, asanas become meditation. Through the muffled hum of mantras from the neighboring temple, every movement gains depth. Tadasana - and you feel how your feet grow into the earth, like the roots of an old tree. Vrikshasana - and it seems as if Buddha himself supports your balance. In Shavasana, under the whisper of palm leaves, comes the realization: you are not just doing exercises, you are dissolving in this place, in its centuries-old wisdom.
Temples are not just a background, they are co-teachers. Local monks sometimes stop and watch. Their silence is the best praise. One of them once said: "Yoga and Dhamma are one river." And it's true: here, where every stone breathes spirituality, practice becomes not physical, but almost sacred. Even simple breathing seems like a prayer.
After classes, I drink coconut water, look at the ocean and understand: yoga in Sri Lanka is not about difficult asanas. It's about how Simhasana at the temple fills you with courage, and Balasana at sunset takes you back to childhood, where there are no worries. It's about the moments when you close your eyes - and instead of thoughts you see only golden light, similar to the radiance of Buddha. I left the temple with something very valuable - with silence inside.

Elephant park greeted us with thick greenery, the rustling of palm trees and the leisurely steps of elephants, who walked importantly along the paths, as if they knew that here they were the only kings.
The guide, a good-natured Sri Lankan named Ravi, told us that many of these animals were once saved from poachers or found orphaned in the jungle. We walked along shady alleys, watching the elephants communicate with each other - some played, flapping their ears, others lazily chewed leaves. Their power and at the same time grace were mesmerizing. Then we were allowed to come closer. I got a young male named Raja - huge, but with kind eyes. At first it was a little scary: his back seemed like an inaccessible mountain, but the mahout gently commanded, and Raja carefully knelt down, helping me climb up. We slowly moved along the river.
Sitting on an elephant is an incredible feeling: every step gives off a deep, calm vibration, as if the earth itself is breathing beneath you. Ravi walked alongside, telling us about the habits of elephants, and I stroked Raja's rough, warm skin, feeling how life pulsates beneath it. After the walk, we were fed. Elephants love fruit, and Raja immediately perked up when he saw a basket with bananas and watermelons. He deftly grabbed them with his trunk, comically rolling it into a tube before putting the delicacy in his mouth. When I handed him a banana, he carefully took it with the tip of his trunk, as if he was afraid to touch it.
There was something wise, almost human, in his eyes.
But the most amazing moment was the bath. We went down to the river, where several elephants were already frolicking. The water sparkled in the sun, and their powerful bodies, covered in shiny drops, looked like ancient deities from myths. The mahouts gave the command, and the elephants began to pour water on themselves and each other with their trunks, snorting and rocking in the water. Some lay on their sides, happily exposing their sides to the streams of water that we helped pour for them with buckets.
Raja suddenly dove sharply, dousing everyone around with a fountain of spray, and I laughed, feeling the drops, like pearls, rolling down my skin.
At that moment, I understood what real freedom was - to see how these giants, the embodiment of strength, play so carefree, trusting people.

The air was filled with the sweet smell of wet earth and grass, and in my soul there remained a feeling as if I had visited another world - a world where time flows more slowly, and nature and man exist in harmony.

The morning began long before dawn. We were already sitting in an open jeep, barely able to sleep, which was taking us deep into the Yala National Park in Sri Lanka. Our guide, Suman, smiled: "Today we will be lucky - I feel it." The park came to life with the first rays of the sun. Spotted deer flashed in the dense thickets, flocks of bright birds soared into the sky, and in the distance, by the pond, massive gray figures froze - wild Asian elephants. Suddenly, one of them, a huge male with tusks, snorted incredulously and rushed in our direction. We were confused. The elephant's huge carcass was twice the size of our jeep. Only Suman did not lose his head, and standing in the car with sharp cries drove the animal away. The elephant reluctantly moved away and continued to peacefully chew leaves. "Look, a crocodile!" someone said. A saltwater crocodile lay motionless as a log right by the shore. Its yellow eyes were half-closed, but we knew it was watching every movement around us.
But the main target was him - the jaguar. Yala has one of the highest chances of meeting this rare predator.

One fine day. Surf in Sri Lanka
This day started like any other morning in Sri Lanka. The sun was just rising above the horizon, painting the sky in warm shades of orange and pink. The air was filled with the scent of tropical flowers and a fresh ocean breeze. I woke up with the anticipation that today would be special. After all, today I would try surfing for the first time in my life. We went to Mirissa Beach, one of the most popular surfing spots on the south coast. The sand was still cool, and the waves seemed to be calling us. I rented a surfboard and, a little nervously, approached the water. My instructor, a local guy named Saman, said with a smile: “Don’t be afraid, just feel the ocean. It will teach you everything.” The first attempts were clumsy. I fell off the board, swallowed salt water and laughed at my mistakes. But each time I felt more confident. Saman patiently explained how to balance properly and feel the rhythm of the ocean. And then, finally, it happened - I caught my first wave. It was an incredible feeling! I glided along the water, feeling the wind hitting my face, and my heart beating in unison with the ocean. At that moment, I realized that this is what is worth living for. We surfed for several hours, and every time I caught a wave, I felt more and more free. The ocean became more than just water for me, but something more - a source of energy and inspiration. After surfing, we sat on the beach, drank coconut juice and shared our impressions. The sun was setting, painting the sky in gold and purple tones, and I realized that this day will forever remain in my memory as one of the brightest and happiest moments in my life. Sri Lanka gave me not only the beauty of nature, but also a feeling of harmony with myself and the world. And now, when I think back to that day, I feel like I'm back on the board, riding the waves, and I realize that the best moments in life are the ones when you feel truly alive.

At sunset, when the sky turns pink and gold, the coast of Sri Lanka becomes a place where something truly magical happens.
A small group of people gather on the beach - volunteers and tourists who will become participants in an unusual event. They all came with one goal: to return to the ocean the little turtles that they managed to save.
These turtles were born just a few weeks ago. Their nest, carefully built by a mother turtle in the sand, was discovered by local fishermen. They immediately informed the sea turtle conservation center, because the eggs were threatened not only by natural predators, but also by human activity. Volunteers carefully transferred the eggs to a safe place, where they were observed until the very moment of hatching.
When the turtles were born, they were so tiny that they easily fit in the palm of your hand. Their shells were still soft, and their eyes were full of wonder at the new world. But the path to the ocean would have been too dangerous for them if not for the help of people. For several weeks, they were looked after, fed and watched to make sure they grew stronger.
And then the day came. Volunteers brought baskets with turtles to the shore. The children who came with their parents jumped with impatience, and the adults smiled, watching them. One of the volunteers, a young guy named Ravi, began to talk about how important it is to protect nature and help those who cannot cope on their own.
“Each turtle is a miracle,” he said, holding one of the babies in his hands. “They return to the ocean so that one day, many years later, they can return to this shore again and continue their race. We must do everything so that this cycle is not interrupted.”
When the moment came to release the turtles, everyone froze. The baskets were carefully placed on the sand, and the babies, feeling the proximity of water, began to move. One by one, they climbed out of the baskets and rushed towards the ocean. Their tiny paws left traces in the sand, and the waves, as if welcoming them, gently rolled onto the shore.
People watched this spectacle with bated breath. Some were filming on their phones, some were just standing and smiling, and some even wiped away a tear. The turtles, so tiny and defenseless, seemed like a symbol of hope and a reminder of how important it is to protect nature.
